My dishwasher has power but won’t start

If there is power to your dishwasher, but the program won't start then follow these simple checks to try to get the machine working again.

  • Check that the dishwasher door is fully closed

Due to safety features built into your machine, your dishwasher is designed not to work if the door is not closed fully and the door locking latch is not clicked into place correctly. Issues with the door not shutting correctly is the most common reason why a dishwasher will not start. Check that nothing is blocking the door from closing on your machine (pans, metal oven trays and other larger items can often press on the door and prevent it from closing).

The door latch is an important safety feature and if it is damaged then water may leak out of your dishwasher when it is running. To repair or replace a damaged door latch, we would recommend using a qualified repair engineer.

If the door does not close correctly against the door latch and the latch does not engage into the door's micro switch, then the fault is likely to be the door lock. Again due to safety concerns we would advise that you use a qualified repair engineer to rectify this problem.

  • Check the child lock isn't activated

If you can not open or close the door to your machine or the control panel is not responding, someone could have accidentally turned on the child lock feature on your machine. Turn this off and the functionality should return.

  • Restart the power to the dishwasher if it has malfunctioned

Another check is to unplug the dishwasher from the power socket and wait 5 seconds. Reconnect the appliance, turn on and hopefully any software malfunction will have been reset.
