How much detergent should I use?

Using the right amount of detergent in your washing machine is vital to getting the best results out of your wash. When it comes to using the correct dosage of detergent, there are three key facts to consider.

  • How dirty is your washing?

The more dirty items are, the more detergent you will need to use to remove it. Remember 70% of the dirt on clothes comes from the body & only 30% of the dirt comes from external sources that you can see.

  • How much washing is in the load?

Detergent dosage instructions are based on a washing machine's drum size. The larger the load, the more dirt there is and the more detergent you need to remove it.

  • How hard is your water?

Hard water areas contain high concentrations of calcium & magnesium, which needs to be neutralised for more effective cleaning results. In hard water areas more detergent is needed as some will go to neutralising the minerals in the water. In very soft water areas then usually less detergent is needed as the soap will foam/bubble more easily.
