My washing machine is not spinning.

There are a number of possible causes for your washing machine failing to spin. Always check for an error code on the control panel as if there is one showing, this will help diagnose the problem. If there is no error message, then the problem could be caused by the following.

  • The load in the machine is not balanced

Washing machines have in-built sensors that detect if the load is unbalanced. If your washing is too heavy or banging around, the machine may not spin. To resolve this issue you can either remove items from the wash or add towels to the wash to even things out (make sure they are the right colour!). Also don't overfill the drum beyond the recommended weight.

  • The pump may be blocked

The issue could be caused by a pump blockage. To clean the pump, follow the instructions below.

    ❶ Switch the appliance off.

❷ Unplug the machine from the mains.

    ❸ Open the service flap.

❹ Drain off all water using the drainage hose or by removing the pump cover slowly.

❺ Clean the interior, the thread and the housing of the pump so that the impeller is able to rotate.

❻ Refit the pump cover and screw it back in firmly.

❼ To check the pump for leakage pour 1 litre of water into the detergent drawer.

❽ If the pump is sealed watertight, start the pumping programme.

  • The washing machine hose is kinked or blocked

If your machine is not spinning properly, or not spinning at all, the issue could be a blocked or a kinked waste water hose. The following steps can check to see if this is the problem

    • Switch the appliance off.

    • Unplug the machine from the mains.

    • Check that the drainage hose has been installed correctly without any kinks.

    • Before loosening the hose clip on the siphon, place a bucket under the tap to avoid spills.

    • Carefully remove the drainage hose and pour the remaining water out of the drainage hose into the bucket.

    • Clean the drainage hose and the connecting piece of the siphon.

    • Hold the drainage hose in the bucket.

    • Select the "Drain" programme.

    • Connect the drainage hose to the siphon.

    • Check whether the drain hose is watertight.

  • You may have selected the 'no spin' or 'rinse stop' at the end of the wash cycle

If you have accidentally selected the 'no spin' or 'rinse stop' setting on the control panel, your washing will sit in the water and not drain & spin at the end of the cycle. Just switch off these settings and you should be good to go.
