Electrical hazards in the workplace and how to minimise them

In almost every workplace, there is a high chance that you will be exposed to potential electrical hazards. First, you must be aware of some of these hazards and then you can act to minimise them.

 Some of the most common electrical hazards include: 

  • Exposed cables 

  • Overloaded power sockets

  • Faulty wiring 

  • Damaged electrical equipment

  • Un-serviced white goods

There are a number of steps companies can take to minimise electrical hazards in the workplace. These can include: 

  • Educating staff on potential electrical dangers

  • Avoid overloading power sockets 

  • Keep electrical equipment away from liquids 

  • Unplug electrical items when they are not in use 

  • Checking and servicing equipment regularly

  • Items that don’t meet the safety standards should be safely disposed of
