Which detergent should I use in my washing machine?

You should use different detergents depending upon the type and colour of items you are washing. Biological washing detergent can irritate certain peoples' skin and in those cases we would recommend the non-biological & sensitive skin options.

We have a brief guide below. For how much detergent to use, click here.

  • White clothes

We recommend using power detergents that contain bleach and optical brighteners. These products help to keep your clothes bright white. Power detergent can be dosed directly into the washing machine drawer or in a dosing ball placed directly into the washing drum.

  • Coloured clothes

With coloured clothes it is important to use a detergent that is designed for coloureds/delicates & that doesn't contain optical brighteners. That way your colours will stay fresh and vivid for longer. A whole range of options exist for these 'general purpose' detergents - powders, sheets, liquids, tablets & pods.

  • Black and dark clothes

We recommend using special liquid detergents that don't contain bleach. That way you preserve the colour and brightness of your clothing for longer. Blacks remain black and dark colours remain dark. With these detergents you can put them directly into the detergent tray or pour them into a dosing ball and place them directly into the washing drum.

  • Washing machine detergent pods

Pods are a great new way to add detergent to your wash. They are very convenient and are super easy to use - just put them in the washing machine drum and they are ready to go.

  • Washing machine tablets

Washing machine tablets are also very convenient as they can be put directly into the detergent tray. Using the correct amount of detergent is easy with a tablet as they are ready made up for you.
