Keeping it Cool This Summer with Electric Fans

With the heat of summer, an electric fan can be vital to stay cool. However, like many other household electrical appliances, they can be hazardous if used incorrectly. Recently, a TikTok trend has emerged where people place wet towels on top of their fans in the hopes of circulating cool air throughout their homes. This "hack" is inherently dangerous as water can easily come into contact with electricity, putting users at risk of electric shocks.

Ultimately, fans can be used safely without resorting to any hacks to keep us cool in the summer. We have compiled a list of safe and simple ways to use your fan during the hot British summer:

  • If your fan emits a burning smell or strange noises, turn it off.

  • When the fan is not in use, remember to switch off the electric socket it's plugged into.

  • Keep water away from the fan's electrical sockets.

  • Every few years, make sure to replace your fan as the motors can age and become prone to overheating.

  • Never leave the fan running overnight or when you're out of the house.

The Infoo App – Get Notified About Recalls

As well as the tips above, you can also check if your fan has been recalled. On the Infoo app, users simply scan a picture of the product label which automatically cross references against the Company’s extensive database of recalls. If there are any recall notices on the products further down the line, the app will alert the user and provide them with the necessary information and next steps.
